Pride with Purpose - 14 June

LGBTIQA+ advocates, don't miss out on two dynamic workshops exploring Story of Self & Sustainable Leadership at Williamstown Town Hall on Wednesday 14 June 2023.

Pride with Purpose is a workshop series for LGBTIQA+ advocates and allies in Melbourne's west to build their capacity in promoting inclusion and diversity. Supported by Hobsons Bay City Council through the Make It Happen Grants program, the training event on 14 June will include the following topics:

  • Story of Self - The Power of Storytelling as an Advocacy Tool

  • Acts of Sustainable Leadership

WHO IS THIS FOR?

14 June is aimed at LGBTIQA+ community advocates, Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) leads, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), emerging leaders and change-makers. This event is for individuals who have some level of experience or interest in advocacy related to LGBTIQA+ rights and inclusion. It is intended to support LGBTIQA+ change-makers who want to learn more about becoming an effective spokesperson and leader to drive meaningful change.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

STORY OF SELF

At the completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to tell an effective and engaging story that communicates their values and their “why” of advocacy;

  • Engage their audience to action by applying a specific storytelling “recipe”;

  • Make sense of their personal journey and attitude towards leadership or advocacy and become aware of their motivations and values;

  • Gain insight into how to create empathy and communicate stories with hope;

  • Learn how to listen and give and receive feedback.

ACTS OF SUSTAINABLE LEADERSHIP

At the completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of what sustainable leadership means and how that impacts their capacity to “do the work” in creating change within their community or organisation;

  • Implement strategies to prevent and manage burnout;

  • Expand their knowledge of relevant strategies and tools to practice “self-care”;

  • Redefine “resilience” and develop the skills to cope with stress and adversity;

  • Understand what they need to maintain a sense of personal balance and ways they can support their health and wellbeing.
