Scentre Group aimed to create an engaging activation celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community, featuring the work of organisations like The Equality Project. We provided insights, shared stories, and helped design a display that honoured diverse identities.

Running from 20th February to 3rd March 2024 at Westfield Sydney, the activation offered a vibrant, educational space showcasing Mardi Gras and the impact of rainbow organisations.

NALA

NALA’s Gender-Inclusive Underwear Line: Collaboration with The Equality Project

NALA, an underwear startup, approached The Equality Project with a unique request: to launch a gender-inclusive underwear line within less than three months. They sought our assistance to ensure their brand and product design were inclusive of gender-diverse individuals, particularly transwomen.

Challenge and Approach

NALA aimed to develop underwear that was inclusive and affirming for individuals across the gender spectrum. They needed guidance on appropriate language, marketing strategies, and specific design considerations to meet the needs of their target audience.

We provided tailored rainbow awareness training to NALA’s small team, focusing on gender diversity and the unique experiences of gender-diverse people when purchasing and using underwear. Our training included discussions on language sensitivity, marketing approaches, and the importance of involving subject-matter experts and individuals with lived experience in the design process.

Following the training, we offered a two-week consultation, leveraging subject-matter experts and individuals with lived experience. This collaboration allowed NALA to explore design and functional aspects, developing innovative solutions and inclusive design elements that provided comfort and affirmation.

Results and Ongoing Partnership

By collaborating closely with the gender-diverse community, NALA gained invaluable insights and feedback on their product line. This inclusive approach ensured that their underwear designs met functional needs and provided a sense of comfort, confidence, and empowerment to gender-diverse individuals.

Our partnership with NALA extends beyond the initial collaboration; we are now one of their charity partners. This ongoing relationship signifies NALA’s commitment to supporting and promoting LGBTIQA+ rights and inclusion in the long term.
